Wise County Historical Society,
Inc.
The
Wise County Historical Society, Inc.,
owns the Wise County Heritage Museum, and its main focus is to raise
funds for the restoration of the building. It is governed
by Trustees and Officers, and it employs one staffperson.
Membership is open to the public.
The group meets monthly
(excluding August and December) on the 4th Thursday at 3 PM in the
auditorium of the museum. (In November, the meeting date is
the 3rd Thursday to avoid conflict with Thanksgiving.) The
meetings focus on various programs of historical interest.
The group makes scheduled
tours of historical sites in the county as well.
Volunteers in the group
assist genealogical researchers and then donate the proceeds from
their research to the restoration project.
One of the main fundraising
projects of the Society is the annual Wise
Country Fall Out in October of each year. It is a showcase
of local talent that continues to grow each year.
The group has received
Distringuished Service Awards for Wise County in 2005 and 2006 for
their efforts to preserve the county's past.
Annual dues are $10
per person or $15 per couple. A lifetime membership is $150
each. Members are admitted free to the museum and to the Archives
Room. They also receive a newsletter in which queries may
be listed at no cost. To join, complete the application
and send a check or money order with your complete name and address
